13 and Going Strong

So far I have 13 green bean seeds which have germinated. I originally planted 18 seeds and now I've had a pretty good success rate. The little seedlings, as I affectionately call them, are growing strong and getting taller every day. I can almost taste the green beans that I'll be eating this summer :)

This weekend was a gardening weekend for me. I planted some basil in anticipation of the salads I hope to eat during the summer. I've also planted a lot of strawberry plants. The one plant that I forgot to start was my Japanese eggplant. :( I forgot that I needed to start them this weekend. *doh* I know what I"ll have to do next weekend in the garden

Spring is here

Spring is upon us. I don't say this because of the warm, sunny weather we've been experiencing lately. I say that Spring is here because I hear the birds and bees chirping, literally. We had a hummingbird lay a nest and her eggs hatched a few days ago. There are two baby hummingbirds sitting in the nest and growing quickly. If the birds are reproducing then spring must definitely be here. In addition, some seeds that I was germinating for summer vegetables have also started growing. Animals and plants are both welcoming the change in season ... so enjoy the warm weather and say good-bye to your "winter" coats .... how much of a "winter" coat can you really have in California anyway? ^_~

Busy Weekend

I had a very eventful and busy weekend. This weekend we had daylight saving time kick in, meaning we lost an hour. Despite the loss of the hour, I made the most of my weekend.

The first task we (Ming and I) had was to do some gardening work. Our yard (front and back) had been neglected for awhile due to our busy schedules. Neglected yards grow weeds ... and lots of them! We spent one morning weeding, mowing the lawn, and generally putting the yard back into shape. In addition to weeding by hand, I bought some industrial strength weed killer. Ok, I don't know if it is really industrial strength or not but it certainly looked like it was doing a good job killing the weeds. The weed killer takes a few days to completely kill the weeds but within a few hours of applying the weed killer, the weeds were already starting to yellow. Yes! The gardening tasks were much harder on the body than I anticipated and all of my muscles were aching by the end of it.

In addition to gardening, we took Coco to the puppy playground, AKA dog park. It was lovely weather so she got some sun and a chance to socialize with other dogs. We same some of the cutest dogs, which included cocker spaniels, wiener dogs, beagles, other malteses, and yorkies. Many of the dogs we saw were the cutest things and it made me want to get another dog. ^_^

Ming completed our taxes for this weekend and that was a huge task! With taxes out of the way, he was able to play his newest 360 game ... a game which he describes as really fun. I made healthy blueberry cupcakes, my favorite soup for dinner, and did the laundry. I don't think there were many moments this weekend where I wasn't doing something. It was a very fulfilling weekend and I'm glad that we got a lot done.

This coming weeekend there's a plant/flower show and I intend to be there. Stay tuned..maybe I'll find some nice things for the newly weeded garden.

This is one of the cutest maltese videos. It shows one dog stealing a bone from another dog
