Ray and Jamie Foxx
I watched Ray last night. While it was a decent and enjoyable movie I don't think Jamie Foxx should have won an Oscar for it. He did a decent job portraying Ray Charles but no where near Oscar-worthy, IMO. All actors shine much better when they are trying to portray someone than when they are acting in a fictional role. Jennifer Lopez is a prime example of someone who cannot act yet she did a very good job when she was in Selena. Jennifer Lopez is, in fact, a terrible actress. I would never pay $10 to go see one of her movies. She won critical acclaim when she was Selena because, simply put, portraying someone isn't that hard. I don't know if she (and all other actors who portray someone) did a good job because the director forced them to act a certain way, thereby curbing their own artistic expression, or because the public perceives the actor did a good job portraying someone else (since that someone else was a legend in his own time).
